Smoke Free Cook County
In 2005, Commissioner Quigley, a long-time champion
of respiratory health, proposed and passed a county-wide secondhand
smoke ban which prohibited all smoking indoors throughout Cook County.
His legislation soon led to a ban state-wide.
On May 1, 2007, the Smoke-Free Illinois Act was passed, which prohibits
smoking in public places, places of employment, governmental vehicles
and within 15 feet of any entrance to a public place or place of employment
through the entire state of Illinois.
What others are saying...
In 2008, Mike Quigley was recognized for his contributions
to public health by the Respiratory Health Association of Metropolitan
Chicago, which awarded him their prestigious Making a Difference
in Legislative Service Award.
